Finding your lender first will allow you to shop with confidence, save time and be a competitive buyer.

You have many options when it comes to financing your home. Just like finding the right Realtor® for you is important, equally so is finding the right lender.

You can finance your mortgage through your bank, through a national lending company, or through a local lender. While there is a prime rate set by the Federal Government, different lenders offer different programs and overlays that will affect you financially, whether that’s through different rates, discount points, loan options, down payments, or fees.

Another thing to consider is a lender’s local market expertise and communication. During a transaction, it’s important that your Realtor®, lender, and attorney are all in constant communication. Often times, working with a local lender will make for a smoother home buying process, simply because of their more intimate knowledge of our market, greater availability, and relationships to agents and attorneys in our area.

When it comes to finding the right lender, my advice is to shop around. Get to know them, get to know what they offer you, and decide based on what’s important to you.
